Ngā Huinga o Mataaoho - The Gathered Volcanoes of Mataaoho
The façade lighting at One Queen Street is a visual representation of the story of Mataaoho. “The deity Mataaoho lived in Te Ipu-a-Mataaoho (the bowl of Mataaoho – Mt Eden's crater). When his wife left him, taking all his clothes, Mataaoho called on the goddess Mahuika. The fire she sent to warm him formed Ngaa Huinga-a-Mataaoho - the gathered volcanoes of Mataaoho”.
Precinct worked with Ngāti Te Ata Waiohua Artist, Pāora Puru to design a custom lighting sequence for the exterior façade of the Deloitte Centre - Te Kaha, in Auckland.
Named Ngā Huinga o Mataaoho - The Gathered Volcanoes of Mataaoho, the artwork aspires to integrate Māori cultural identity, values and designs in a public space, deepening a person's connection to place and community.
As a business, Precinct is passionate about city centres and contributing to a vibrant, diverse society.
