Commercial Bay opened in 2020 and has become the most transformational commercial development project Tāmaki Makaurau has ever seen. It is a true mixed-use precinct connecting 5 commercial office buildings with a central shopping and dining destination on Auckland’s city centre waterfront.

The precinct is home to over 100 retailers, bars and restaurants and an estimated 10,000 professionals from small businesses through to our large anchor clients; PwC, Deloitte, HSBC, Jarden and Aon.

In 2024, Auckland’s first InterContinental Hotel opened at Commercial Bay, with prime views of the Waitematā. The hotel has brought another 1,000 people to the precinct each day including domestic and international tourists.

The significance of the waterfront location within Tāmaki Makaurau is well known. The southern shore of the Waitematā Harbour has always been an important place of transport, trade and commerce. In the late 1800s it was named ‘Commercial Bay’ as a reflection of the strong trading that happened on the foreshore, a name which Precinct has reintroduced to describe this part of the city centre waterfront. 

Commercial Bay has succeeded in contributing to the regeneration of Auckland’s city centre, re-establishing a busy hub of transport, business and leisure for all Aucklanders to experience and enjoy.
